Team at The Pilates Room consists of a unique blend of Pilates & Gyrotonic Instructors from all
different trainings such as Polestar, PHI Institute, Stott, Gyrotonic Expansion System, Hatha Yoga,
and Dance. A Combined 35
years of experience amongst the Professionals at the Room; coming from a variety of backgrounds; they
are passionate and dedicated to the safety and well being of their clients. We have experience with
the following: Knee, Hip, & Shoulder post rehabilitative replacments, Scoliosis, Stenosis, Herniated / Bulging discs,
Cerebral Palsy, Neuropathy,
began her Apprenticeship Style training 20 years ago in Singapore & Hong Kong. She is certified in Matwork, Reformer,
Cadillac, and the Wunda Chair by Polestar, Powerhouse, and Level 2 of the GYROTONIC® Expansion system as
well as Advanced Connective Tissue massage. Her experience specializes in Pilates for Osteoporosis, Pregnancy, Sport Specific
& Pilates with Injuries. She established The Pilates Room in McLean Va in 2002 and since then has been a Platform
for numerous Pilates Instructors to come and gain experience with teaching the Technique in a Format of Group Apparatus
Classes. The variety and style of classes offered at The Pilates Room is unlike most places. ALL major PIECES of APPARATUS
are offered in a GROUP environment - the REFORMER, TOWER and CHAIR, so the variety is endless. Very intimate, very personalized,
and always changing to keep the mind fresh and the body challenged.
has been with The Pilates Room almost from the beginning. With a background as an Aerobics Owner & Instructor turned AFAA Personal Trainer, & certified Reebok cycling
Instructor, Susan continued her to expand her knowledge on the cutting edge of the Pilates trend. Susan is certified in Mat-work, Tower, Chair , & Reformer by PHI in Pittsburgh
& Mark Trudeau of Quantum Fitness. Susan’s classes have a unique energy that combines the true workout of
Pilates with the compliment of Personal Training approach & pace of an aerobic class. Her most recent obsession
is the Ballet Barre. She has created her own blend named BarrAtone which again is composed all of her backgrounds. She
is a Mom of three and enjoys playing golf, and spending time with her family at her Easton, MD
began her ballet training at the age of five in Salt Lake City, Utah and embarked upon her path toward a dance career with
the Ballet West Academy at the University of Utah at age 10. She also participated in summer programs
at the New Zealand School of Dance, the Hong Kong International Summer Dance School, Jacob’s Pillow and the Berlin State
Ballet. Christin continued her studies at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C.. Upon
graduation from the Kirov Academy in 2002 she joined the Universal Ballet in Seoul, Korea. Throughout her
training and career as a professional ballet dancer she has studied Pilates, Yoga, and GYROTONIC® She
is now a certified GYROTONIC® and Pilates instructor.
Heide has been a movement professional for over 20
years as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Her experience in Pilates, Yoga and Dance enables her to give students
a unique workout experience with a focus on alignment. She received a BFA in Dance from Purchase College and is certified
with Yoga Alliance and PHI Institute and most recently in Thai Foot Reflexology. She has performed and taught in New York,
San Francisco and Virginia. She has choreographed for many community theatre productions and is on staff with Dodgeball
Terri, is our full time massage therapist at the studio.
Growing up as a dancer, she has always been an advocate of health and fitness. She feels it's not just a job, but where her
passion and heart is. She graduated at N. Virginia School of massage therapy in Falls church. In 2011, she expanded her training
and received her certification as a Pilates instructor from the PHI institute. She is certified in Reformer, Tower, Chair
and Mat work as well as Total Barre by Stott.Her massage training includes: Therapeutic, Deep Tissue, Sport, Trigger Point,
Connective tissue, Thai foot Reflexology, Hot Stone and Swedish massage.We all have a purpose in life... a unique gift or
special talent. When we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the exhilaration of our own spirit....
While working on an organic farm in the Hudson Valley,
NY, Kari was diagnosed with Lyme disease. She ended her six year organic farming career returned to college.
Kari graduated from Bard College with a BA in Art in 2003. While at Bard, she also studied modern dance and found Pilates.
Convinced Pilates boosted her healing from Lyme disease, she pursued a
Pilates certification through Power Pilaters In New York City in 2003. Because of the effects of the Gyrotonic Expansion System on her Aunt living with Parkison’s
Disease Kari furthered her training in 2003 with completed her certification with Magali Messac at Gyrotonic Seattle. In 2010
she trained with Mia Munroe and is a current Gyrokinesis apprentice. From September, 2004 until moving to the Washington
D.C. area in 2012, Kari owned the first Pilates and Gyrotonic Studio, called Mountain Lake Holistic Movement Studio, on
Orcas Island in Washington State.
Kimmie is a fully Certified Instructor of GYROTONIC®,
GYROKINESIS® Exercise and STOTT PILATES®. Kimmie has taught Pilate to dancers, athletes, rehab and injured populations
since 2002. She completed much of her training at Pilates on Fifth in New York City, while studying frontiers of mind-body
medicine at NYU. Kimmie graduated from University of Maryland, with a B.S. in Kinesiology and soon after also certified
as an Instructor of GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methodologies. Kimmie continues her Gyrotonic education with certifications
in the Gyrotonic specialized equipment as well as Gyrokinesis and Gyrotonic level 2. She began her study of the body as a
lifelong dancer, Kimmie grew up training locally with Ballet Theatre of Annapolis and with Fran Peters. She is now Co-Artistic
Director of a local dance opera company DEVIATED THEATRE [www.deviatedtheatre.org] which shares original tales through acting,
aerials, and contemporary dance. She is a recipient of the 2014 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Award for Choreography
(MD), the 2013 Audience Favorite at the Breaking Glass Project (NYC), and 2011 recipient of the John F. Kennedy Center Local
Dance Commissioning Project (DC).
Christina Hritz, a former dancer and lifelong mover, first
discovered Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® techniques in 2005. Since then she has worked
with a wide range of clients, having witnessed healing and transfomation, pain reduction and prevention, and the freedom through
movement that Gyrotonic® exercise can provide. Currently she is a Gryotonic®
Master Trainer and a Gyrokinesis® Pre-Trainer, she has also studied the Therapeutic Applications of Gyrotonic
and is certified on the Ladder, Jumping, Stretching Board, and Leg Extension Unit.
Judi received her 200 hour yoga
certification from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Kripalu means 'compassion' and Judi follows that example by teaching
with compassion and with her heart wide open. Judi specializes in working with children with special needs. Judi uses her
extensive experience and training to encourage children to discover that yoga provides them with a safe and supportive environment
where they can develop at their own pace and be accepted for all the gifts they have! Judi is a member of the International
Association of Yoga Therapists and the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association.
